In this part of their Pharmaceutical Executive video interview, UpScriptHealth's Peter Ax, Founder and CEO, and George Jones, Chief Operations Officer, comment on how Eli Lilly's recent announcement to sell Zepbound DTC will impact the counterfeit weight loss drug issue.

How do you think this issue is going to be impacted by Eli Lilly’s recent announcement to start selling Zepbound directly to consumers without insurance coverage?

George Jones: I think when, when dispensing vials of medicine, it will be interesting to keep an eye on how, how effective patients are at dosing themselves and drawing the correct dose into the vials, and if it leads to any additional, additional side effect or harm for patients, the one thing you can be sure of, it will be the exact correct concentration of Zepbound every single time. Whereas a compounded product, it could be a different a different concentration and a misdraw by the patient that that could cause significant side effects, but, but to answer your specific question, it will be something to keep an eye on. And you know, I haven't dug that deep into it yet, but I would imagine Lilly has significant patient education to train patients on how to use the correct dose and how to draw from the vial, effectively to do no harm.

Peter Ax: Miranda, I believe Lilly is making Zepbound available in these lower doses, to really combat the compounding pharmacies that are charging similarly for what is very likely to be a somewhat different drug, because it's compounded rather than the actual than the actual drug manufactured by Lily. So, I think this is going to go a long way to sort of stopping some of the compounding out there.
