Event Overview:

Rafael Fernandez, PhD, Associate Director-Merck & Co. IT, and Gottfried Schroeder, PhD, Associate Principal Scientist also from Merck & Co. (Quantitative Biosciences), join PerkinElmer’s Christof Gaenzler, PhD, for a discussion of how they conducted in-depth testing of a new data analytics workflow system. The system streamlines data capture and analysis across diverse formats covering a wide range of biochemical, biophysical, multiparametric and cellular assay and scientific instrumentation types. Additionally, the system enables search and analytics across all assays because all of the data is processed and published with a common platform.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • See how a rigorous customer-driven evaluation of data analytics workflows could apply to your research team
  • Better understand the impact of current informatics landscape on your IT and Operations
  • Benefits of a single platform that allows users to add consistent metadata and explore data on demand

Who Should Attend:

  1. Decision makers (Directors, VPs, Managers) of Pharma 1-50 Screening labs with titles such as:
  • VP, Drug Discovery
  • Director of Screening Operations
  • Director of Biology
  • Screening Lab Manager
  • Head of Screening
  • Head of Assay Development
  1. Key influencer end users
  • Research Scientist
  • Screening Scientist
  • Scientist, Assay Development and Screening
  • R&D Scientist
  1. IT personnel
  • Director, IT
  • VP, Information Technology
  • Head of IT

Speakers

Rafael Fernandez, PhD
Associate Director – Merck Information Technology
Merck & Co.

Rafael Fernandez, PhD, is an Associate Director at Merck Information Technology. Dr. Fernandez earned his PhD in Molecular Biology from Cornell University and a B.S. and M.S. in Molecular Biology from the Universidad Austral de Chile. His work at Merck has been focused on in vitro pharmacology, cell-based assay development and screening to support lead discovery. Prior to Merck, Dr. Fernandez was a Principal Scientist at SRU Biosystems where he worked on developing "label-free" HTS cell-based applications that utilized SRU's novel biosensor technologies. Previously he was at the Novartis Pharmaceuticals and NIBRI where he was Lab Head in the Functional Genomics Group.

Gottfried Schroeder, PhD
Associate Principal Scientist, Quantitative Biosciences
Merck Research Labs, Merck & Co.

Gottfried Schroeder, PhD, joined the Biochemistry and Biophysics group at Merck Research Labs (Boston, MA) in 2012. Since that time Gottfried has applied a wide range of biophysical techniques coupled with automation to projects in multiple disease areas from the early discovery through pre-clinical candidate space. These efforts encompassed small scale screening to in-depth mechanism of action studies, including several clinical assets. In 2015, Gottfried assumed a leadership role in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) at the Boston site providing continued support for multiple pre-clinical and clinical programs spanning small molecule, peptide, and oligonucleotide modalities. Dr. Schroeder received his doctorate (UNC-Chapel Hill) under Richard Wolfenden with a focus on enzymology and biophysics. His post-doctoral work at UT-Austin with Chris Whitman and Kenneth Johnson (collaboration) centered on advanced transient state kinetics methods and enzyme mechanism. Gottfried’s current interests include further integration and application of SPR data to the drug discovery process.

Christof Ganzler, PhD
Director, Global Screening Products
PerkinElmer Informatics

Christof Gänzler, PhD, gained his doctorate in molecular biology from the German Cancer Center (dkfz) in Heidelberg/Germany working on Human Papilloma Virus vaccines. From 2002 he worked for LION Bioscience as a Scientific Consultant before joining Spotfire® in 2006, which was later acquired by TIBCO® Software. At Spotfire and TIBCO he worked in different pre-sales and technical roles and led a team of pre-sales consultants in DACH and Central/Eastern Europe until 2015. Christof joined Zephyr Health for one year as a Technical Account Manager for Europe and then joined PerkinElmer Informatics as Manager Scientific Analytics responsible for marketing and technical sales of the broad range of PerkinElmer software products focused on the data analysis needs of life sciences customers. Today, Christof is responsible for marketing the TIBCO Analytics platform.
