Ad Council and Alzheimer’s Association Launch New Campaign Focused on Early Symptoms

It’s important to catch Alzheimer’s Disease as early as possible. While there is no cure, the damage can be mitigated when treatment is started early. Unfortunately, if the disease is able to progress, the damage it causes is irreversible.

The Ad Council is partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association on a new educational campaign to promote the early signs of the disease. The Some Things Come With Age campaign focuses on two aspects: providing information about early symptoms to pre-care partners and putting a special focus on Black Americans, who the association says are twice as likely to develop the disease.

In a press release, the Alzheimer’s Association’s chief programs and mission engagement officer Katie Evans said, “The Alzheimer's Association is proud to partner with the Ad Council on this important campaign. Black Americans face a higher risk of Alzheimer's disease and are often diagnosed later in the disease's progression. This campaign encourages families to initiate conversations sooner when they notice potential signs of Alzheimer's or another dementia. Early detection and diagnosis provide the best opportunity for care, management and treatment of the disease."

In the same press release, VML Health executive director John Marchese added, “We're deeply honored to support the launch of this crucial campaign, focused on early Alzheimer's detection within the Black community. We believe that by communicating honestly and openly, we can empower individuals and families with the information they need to recognize the early signs and seek help. Alzheimer's affects so many of us, and we're inspired to contribute to a healthier future for our community."

The Ad Council’s chief campaign development officer Heidi Arthur also said, “Alzheimer's is one of the most pressing health issues of the moment, especially as the national population of people over 55 continues to grow. That's why we're so proud to partner with the Alzheimer's Association and VML to create this inspiring work, which will help all people with aging family members across the country recognize the signs and help them to get care and support for their loved ones."

This is the latest health focused campaign for the Ad Council. In early March, the organization announced the Love, Your Mind campaign, which it developed with Huntsman Mental Health Institute.2 The campaign is aimed at teenagers and uses the video game Roblox to provide mental health tips and support.

In a press release issued at the time, the Ad Council’s vice president of emerging media and technology Laurie Keith said, “"We're so grateful for the collective effort that has brought this dynamic experience to life on a platform that offers an immersive, engaging way to reach teens. By providing expert-vetted resources, extensive game development expertise and custom in-game elements, our partners have made this experience not only fun and engaging for Roblox users, but also deeply impactful."

In the same press release, Tami Bhaumik, vice president of civility and partnerships at Roblox, added, “Part of our mission is to empower people to navigate Roblox and the digital world with civility and confidence. We do this by creating safe community spaces and delivering helpful resources in collaboration with global experts in the areas of human development, mental health and digital literacy. The new Love, Your Mind World complements this by offering teens an experience tailored just for them, designed to help meet their needs for more mental health resources."
