The path to care
Designed to specifically enhance the user experience in the Aetna Health app, Aetna Care Paths offers users clarity over procedures, potential benefits, and personalized care suggestions. This new upgrade will provide users access to all these features in one location.
Aetna Care Paths is founded on US patent-pending technology and helps deliver uniquely crafted suggestions of treatments and programs to support Aetna members in their health care journeys. This new technology also provides members suffering from certain medical conditions a personalized outlook of relevant benefit information paired with a care team to aid and support them throughout their journey. With this new technology, patients can search for individualized health and wellness programs along with the opportunity to request care kits for additional support.
Nathan Frank, senior vice president and chief digital and technology officer at Aetna, made note of the benefits that Aetna Care Paths will bring to members, saying, “Aetna Care Paths are one example of CVS Health's $20 billion multi-year digital investment in making health care simpler to navigate, a key aspect of Aetna's strategy of leveraging technology to deliver a better experience for our members and providers. Leading-edge digital tools, including AI, support members at every stage of their health journey."1
An estimated 50% of Aetna members elect to use the Aetna Health Care App to better understand their benefits, while also managing and searching for health care providers. With the addition of Aetna Care Paths, it marks the sixth recent update to the app providing members and non-members the chance to see Aetna’s transition from transactional approaches to health care to a more personalized and journey-based mindset.
Along with Aetna Care Paths, a handful of additional updates have been rolled out on the Aetna app including:
- A remodeled claims user interfaced breaking down coverage costs and outstanding balances
- The ability to schedule vaccine visits through local CVS pharmacy and MinuteClinic locations along with additional providers
- AI-powered text chat linked with live call centers
- Aetna’s smart compare which helps find the best doctors on a patient-to-patient basis
- Integration of first-in-class dark screen viewing in app display
Aetna aims to not only streamline accessible and simple health care programs for its members but also expects the addition of Aetna Care Paths to give nurses time back in their day, upwards of 90 minutes-per-day, to support and provide care for other members in need.
Dr. Ben Kornitzer, Aetna's chief medical officer, said, “We're giving our nurses more quality time to connect with members, listen to their concerns and help them navigate their health journeys. This could be a cancer patient, or a member recently diagnosed with heart disease, and that extra time in one-on-one conversations not only improves physical health outcomes but also supports our member's mental well-being. Helping our members achieve their best health, is our number one priority."1
