The two programs will be offered to students and CVS interns.
CVS Health provides tuition assistance and scholarships for students enrolled in pharmacy schools. In a press release,1 the organization announced that it is adding two new offerings.
The first is a tuition assistance program for CVS Pharmacy interns called the PharmD program. All interns at the pharmacy are eligible to apply and can receive up to $20,000 per year. According to the release, 21 students will be selected. The program will start with the summer of 2024, and in fall 2024, it will expand for students in their final two years of pharmacy education.
In the press release, executive vice president and chief pharmacy officer at CVS Prem Shah said, “As leaders in community pharmacy, we are committed to investing in the future of pharmacy, particularly to support the next generation of students with financial assistance and hands-on experience necessary to further their careers. We recognize the strong, enduring bond between pharmacists and the communities they serve. CVS Pharmacy will continue to advance the practice of pharmacy and provide more opportunities for students to enter this important area of health care."
Shah is also president of pharmacy and consumer wellness at CVS. He also discussed the other new program, the CVS Health/AACP Student Advocacy & Community Health Equity Award. He said, “Providing culturally competent care is critical to meeting the needs of the many different communities we serve. Our goal is to recruit candidates who are advocates for health equity and the well-being of their patients."
The award is intended to promote diversity of thought, background, perspective, and experience, and students hoping to receive it will need to demonstrate leadership, academic success, financial need and a commitment to advancing the profession of pharmacy care.
